The Kids are Alright

When ever people go on about the "youth of today" I do have to laugh.
It wasn't that long ago when they were the  "youth of today" and yesterday's adults were complaining about them.

While I do acknowledge that there are some serious issues out there I am mostly confident about the youth and tomorrow.

Case in point Zack Kopplin.  He is a 19 year old activist try to repeal Louisiana's biggest anti-science law.

We live in a world that is full of really wonderful things and science is doing it's best job of helping explain those things.  Cut kids off from science and I really will worry about the youth of today.

EDITED TO ADD: Even Hemant Mehta agrees.

    1. Exactly! I hope she will do ok. She has a bit more at stake than Zack does I am afraid.

  2. This kid is great! Regardless of his age, I think I'd rather have him in public office running the country than most of the others I've seen. Unfortunately, the opponents who dismiss him based on his age are probably using that as a convenient excuse. If he was a 19 year old passionately defending creationism, they'd be behind him trying to make him a poster boy for their cause. I hope he keeps fighting the good fight. There's a lot at stake.

    1. His age is one of the reasons I think this is great.
When I get up to do things like this I am just being some Angry White GuyTM. But when it someone like Zack or Jessica Ahlquist then I feel a little bit better about the world.

  3. What an awesome kid. You are right, often people forget that they were the kids of yesterday and elders said they were wrong. I think this is due to "a resistance to change". However in this case, it is a conflict of interests.
